How to write a review on Google for a company
A useful review helps the next customer decide. Google's rule is simple: reviews must reflect a genuine experience.
- Say what the job was. “Replaced our water heater” or “weekly lawn care since May” tells readers more than “great service”.
- Say what happened. Were they on time, was the price what you were quoted, did they clean up, did the fix hold?
- Name the person who helped you if you remember, and keep it about your own experience.
- Leave out private details such as phone numbers or addresses, and keep it civil. Reviews that break Google's content policy are removed and are not put back.
- Do not accept payment for it. Google treats reviews given in exchange for free or discounted goods or services as fake content.

How to see my Google reviews
On your phone
- Open Google Maps and tap Contribute.
- Tap View your profile to see the places you have reviewed.
- To edit or delete one, scroll down, tap See all reviews, tap More next to the review, then Edit review or Delete review.
On a computer
- Open Google Maps and click Menu at the top left.
- Click Your contributions, then Reviews.
- To change one, click More next to it, then Edit review or Delete review.
When you edit a review, Google shows the date of your last edit as its post date. You can change the stars and photos too.
How business owners see and reply to Google reviews
- Open business.google.com and go to your Business Profile. It has to be verified before you can reply.
- Select Read reviews.
- Next to a review, select the reply arrow, type your answer and select Reply.
Google checks replies before they appear, usually within 10 minutes but sometimes up to 30 days. Replies are public, show as coming from your business, and the reviewer is told you replied. Google's advice: keep replies short and polite, sign with your name or initials, never share the customer's private details, and do not use replies to advertise deals.

Make your Google review link
For business owners: paste your Place ID and get a link that opens the review box for your business. Then copy a ready-to-send request email. Everything happens in this page; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Before you share it, open it. The link uses the address format https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= followed by your Place ID. Many review tools use this format, but Google's help pages do not document it, so it could change. The link Google does document is the one in your Business Profile under Read reviews → Get more reviews (steps below). If both work, use either; if they differ, use Google's.
How to find your Google Place ID
- Open Google's Place ID finder (on the Place IDs page of Google Maps Platform).
- Type your business name and city in the search box on the map and pick your business from the list.
- Copy the Place ID shown in the window on the map. It is a long string of letters, numbers, dashes and underscores, often starting with
ChIJ. - Paste it into the tool above.
Google says Place IDs can change over time, for example when a business moves or the map data changes. If an old link stops working, look the ID up again.

Or use the link Google gives you
- Sign in at business.google.com on a computer.
- Select Read reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Use the copy icon to copy the link. To get a QR code, right-click it and choose Save image as. Google says QR codes can only be made in a computer browser.
How to ask customers for Google reviews
Google suggests sharing the link where customers already hear from you: receipts, thank-you emails, the end of a chat, or a printed QR code at your counter or on the truck. The best time is right after the job, while it is fresh.
What Google does not allow: offering anything (a discount, a free service, an entry in a draw) in exchange for a review, or in exchange for changing or removing a bad one.
If you forget to ask, you are not alone. BrickByClick's review requests email each customer one request with a button to your Google review page after a job is marked done, so nobody has to remember. It is part of the CRM from Starter, $99 a month, and the requests go out by email. Not ready for software? BrickByClick Free sends invoices with a pay link for $0, and our free invoice generator makes a PDF invoice where you can print your review link or QR code.
